Julie Bruning

Julie Cheryl Wyckoff-Bruning, age 72, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on April 17, 1952, in Colorado Springs to Wilmot and Helen Wyckoff. Julie was a beloved, wife, sister, aunt, and friend.

Julie graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1970 and went on to pursue her passion for education, earning a teaching degree from Northwest Missouri State University. She began her career as an elementary school teacher, dedicating two years to shaping young minds before relocating to Montrose, Colorado to teach another year.

While Julie’s early career was in education, she later found great joy in her work at Penrose Hospital, where she helped people with hospital admissions, a job she cherished deeply. She later transitioned into the legal field, becoming a paralegal, before taking on a role as administrative assistant.

Julie married Todd Bruning in 1990, and together they built a life of love, laughter and appreciation for nature. Often taking short trips and long drives to take in the beauty of the changing seasons. Julie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Todd, her brother Walter Wyckoff, Aunts Arlie Jean Warembourg, Wilda Nussbaum and Kay Nussbaum and extended family including, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Julie faced years of health challenges with remarkable optimism and strength. Despite the many obstacles she endured, she remained a beacon of positivity, always finding joy in the small moments and spreading love to those around her. Her resilience, courage and unwavering hope inspired all who knew her.

A passionate and caring person, Julie’s warmth, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In honor of her memory, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation, and organization close to Julie’s Heart.

A visitation for Julie will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A reception will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. A graveside service will occur Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at External Service Location, 800 Beacon Lite Rd, Monument, CO 80132.
