Kevin was born on January 21, 1968, into the family of Richard and Marilyn Coan in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the second of three boys in the family and as a child in an Air Force family Kevin moved often living in places like Texas, Utah, Germany, New Mexico until he settled in Colorado in 1980. He graduated from Columbine high school in Littleton, Colorado.
In 1994 Kevin became a father to Kyla Choma. He moved to Colorado Springs in 2011 and worked in the restaurant industry. He was known as a Jack of all Trades, covering all areas of the back of the house. He could often be found burning ‘the midnight oil’ at work preparing for or recovering from some event. He thoroughly enjoyed the people he worked with.
In Colorado Springs Kevin worked for Chilis, Old Chicago and Lucha Cantina. When Lucha Cantina was sold, Kevin went with the building that became Red Gravy. This is where Kevin really found himself and was on top of the world. He became a fixture at Red Gravy before he retired in 2023.
Kevin never met a stranger – he loved to interact with people, and no one was a stranger for long. He loved to cook and feed his friends and neighbors. Throughout his life Kevin was an avid reader, he enjoyed board games and computer games and loved cribbage. He was good at games at won more often than not. He loved the mountains and fishing.
Kevin is preceded in Death by his parents Richard and Marilyn Coan. Kevin is survived by his daughter Kyla Choma and Son-in-Law Matthew Choma, and his brothers Jeff and John Coan. He wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the Rocky Mountains he loved so much. God Bless you on your journey Kevin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Swan Law Mortuary 501 N Cascade Avenue, Tuesday December 16th, 2025, at 11 am with a reception following the service.
