Ladd Earl Hiatt, 72, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully in his home in June, 2023. Ladd was born in Colorado Springs on November 18, 1950, the son of Carl (Ladd) and Dorothy (Dotty) Hiatt, and the eldest of three children. He graduated from Wasson High School in 1968 and briefly attended college before joining the food distribution industry, working at Stevenson Produce, Fresh Express and Taylor Farms Foods, all in the Springs. Ladd often worked physically demanding jobs and was successful because of his methodical, analytical perfectionist approach. After retiring from Taylor Farms, Ladd settled in his hometown with his Boston terrier.
Ladd was incredibly intelligent and had a distinctive, unique and creative nature. He was perpetually curious and had a lifelong fascination with astronomy, getting excited over every new astronomic discovery or event, especially when a niece discovered a planetoid. Naturally, he was an avid Star Trek fan, knowing all the episodes of the earlier series by heart. In addition to the color purple, Ladd loved Boston Terriers, having one at his side almost every day of his life.
Ladd is survived by his sister, Cheryl Haver and brother Greg (Kathy) Hiatt, nieces Emily (Brendan) Plageman and Elizabeth Haver, and nephews Matthew (Anne) Ross, Geoff (Liz) Hiatt and Galen Hiatt, as well as four grandnieces and one grandnephew. In addition to family, he is greatly missed by his Boston terrier, Buster.
Ladd had a long standing personal relationship with Christ and a strong faith and belief in a heavenly afterlife where he would be united with friends, family and every single family pet that had been his pleasure to know. Cremation has already occurred. A Remembrance Gathering will be held at a later date in the Spring, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made in Ladd’s name to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
