Larry Anderson was born into this world on January 19, 1945 to Marion and Gertrude Anderson of Holly, CO. He met the love of his life, Barbara Anderson, while attending Kansas State University. They were happily married for 50 years surviving the many trying times and enjoying the many blessings in their lives. Larry was a lifelong dry wheat farmer in southeastern Colorado.
Larry was not only a dedicated and caring husband, but a loving and supporting father to his two daughters and their families. He was a champion for helping his children in all of their endeavors whether it was sports, music or one of their many other organizations. He continued that tradition in supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities.
His family sadly lost their husband, father and grandfather on September 3, 2021. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Barbara Anderson; his two daughters, Debbie Pieper (Randy) and Shelly Anderson (Andy); and his four grandchildren, Zayna Lynch (Brendan), Maija Pieper, Brennan Pieper, and Kytelyn Pieper.
Larry dedicated his free time to service organizations and their causes. He was proud to be a Master Mason earning his 50 year pin. He was very dedicated to the mission of the Shriners and their children’s hospitals. He not only worked to raise money for the Shiner’s Hospitals thru his dedication to helping with the Shriner’s Circus, but spent countless hours helping children in need receive the care they needed by making sure they were treated at the appropriate hospitals.
Lions Clubs International was also very dear to Larry. He was a Lion’s member for 45 years, where he served not only his local club but also the Lions of Colorado. He served as club president, as District Southeast’s District Governor in 1992-93, and was the president of the Colorado Lions Foundation for many years. His favorite past time was being a member of Lions International Pin Trading Club where he enjoyed making and trading pins with his many friends from around the country and the world.
A dedicated Colorado Rockies fan, few games went by without Larry watching or listening. His love of sports reached beyond baseball and into football and basketball. He was a three sport high school official for many years and then became the official scorekeeper for the local high school.
The family will hold a private service. Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Larry to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Colorado Lions Eye Bank. Checks should be made out to the desired organization and mailed to Farmers State Bank, c/o Shelly Anderson, PO Box 9, Calhan CO 80808.
