I first met Jack at Station 4 in 1978. My first impression was that he was a dedicated and professional fire officer. He also seemed pretty stern. But it didn’t take long to find out that he had a softer side, too. I remember going on lots of calls with him in that open cab American LaFrance with “Grandpa Smith” driving. We were out in the rain, hail, sleet and snow. I remember many nights returning to quarters at oh dark thirty along South Nevada, when that area was just a bit rough.

Jack was a great cook and taught me to cook there at Station 4. It was a move of self-preservation, of course, because I had never cooked in my life and he liked to eat decent food! We became friends and he offered me a job at his carpet business, Allied Western Textiles, at Nevada and Fillmore. The income from that job was incredibly important to me because I had become divorced and was supporting my ex-wife and son, as well as myself. Learning that I needed a place to live, Jack sold me a one-bedroom condo in Skyway. That was another huge event in my life as it allowed me to enroll my son in the Cheyenne Mountain School District.

When Jack took a trip to Australia, the crew started calling him “Outback Jack” for a while. We all also knew that when he was in Vegas, he was known simply as “Mr. L.” Jack loved those trips to Vegas.

Jack had a wonderful laugh and his eyes lit up when he smiled. He was a warm, caring man and a true friend. I am blessed to have known him.

I was saddened to hear of Captain Jack's recent passing! He was a highly respected officer within the Fire Department with a long list of accomplishments and abilities!
I remember Jack as being a serious, no nonsense officer, with a wonderful sense of humor, and ability to have fun while getting the job done in a professional manner.
He will be missed!
Lexy and I send our sincere condolences for your loss!

person. Our condolences to the family for your loss. He will be
missed.

Jack,

Thank you for all of the sweet memories and the great big bear hugs... You certainly knew how to touch peoples lives. When I see a rainbow, or a bright star above, I will definitely think of you and smile.

Yours always,
Deni

Jack and his family were a huge part of our family while growing up. Many road trips, weekend BBQ's, many many holidays spent together. I am fortunate to have shared in these times of laughter and love which I hold very dear in my heart. Most fabulous memories never to be forgotten.
Love from Dede and Steve Schallert

We hope the flower spray is bright and beautiful just as Jack Lea's demeanor ......

Dad,
You were always the "Go to" guy for us from the time we were little to now. The advise you gave us was rarely anything but spot on.
I'm going to miss talking about life with you, hearing your stories of your childhood, Korea, Fire Department or just visiting. Most of all, I'm just going to miss you.
You're with Val and Karla now, and I'm sure you've had to have a talk with them about the stuff they be done until you "came home".
The people you've touched will keep you alive through their memories and stories.
Enjoy this adventure, Dad.
I Love and Miss You
Son
