

Guadalupe R. Valdez, a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Lupe was born on December 12, 1924 to Basilio and Josepha (Rosales) Valdez in Holly, Colorado.
Lupe leaves behind his wife Bernarda S. Valdez and his children Anthony (Cissy) Valdez, Marcella Sanchez, Celestina Muniz (foster daughter), 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
As a child Lupe grew up in Holly, Colorado. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in two wars, WW II and the Korean War as a Sergeant and was honored with the Purple Heart.
On October 17, 1952, Lupe married the love of his life. His memory will forever be treasured by his wife and friend of 61 years, Bernarda (Solórzano) Valdez. Shortly after the couple married they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Lupe spent the rest of his life. He was fortunate enough to travel the world with his beloved "Bernie" by his side. He was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and participated in various charity groups. Lupe had a servant’s heart and loved helping others. He was full of life and well loved by all who knew him.
A Rosary service is planned for 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2013 at Swan-Law Funeral Director’s Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 12, 2013, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2715 E. Pikes Peak, with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery. Reception to follow immediately after burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
