Lynn Tsuyako Murakami passed away peacefully with her beloved family by her side on June 9, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lynn was born on October 20, 1928 in Machida (Western Tokyo), Japan. As a child growing up during World War II, she endured many hardships. Food was in short supply and hunger was a constant problem. Lynn had to walk everywhere, often for more than 5 miles. One regret she always had was that she was unable to attend college to become a school teacher. She was required to work in the munitions factory to support the war effort.
While Lynn was working at the Base Exchange, she met Noriyoshi Murakami. He was stationed in Japan while serving in the US Army. They were married a year later and started a family. Steve was born in Japan and soon after, the family moved to Hawaii. Lynn became a US citizen while in Hawaii. The Murakami family grew with the addition of Marcia, Neal, and Tracy.
Noriyoshi was transferred to Ft Wainwright (Fairbanks), Alaska by the US Army about 8 years later. He had to go to Alaska right away, leaving Lynn behind to care for four children. She packed up the house possessions and ordered winter coats from the Spiegel catalog before bringing the family to Alaska. Four and a half years later, Noriyoshi was transferred to Ft Bragg, North Carolina. This is where he decided to retire from the army. He then moved his family six months later to Colorado Springs.
Lynn Murakami enjoyed life as a homemaker. She took care of the children and the home while doing miscellaneous jobs on the side. She was friendly, selfless, and hospitable to everyone she met. She loved to give hugs and was always saying thanks. She had a good attitude about life: “I try to make the best of everything.” In the end, she dearly missed her husband whom she had been with for over seventy years.
Lynn leaves behind her loving children Marcia (Doug) Faraday of Castle Rock, Colorado, Neal (Judith) Murakami of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tracy (Sue) Murakami of Poquoson, Virginia, precious grandchildren Jessica, Wesley, Patrick, and Trayda, and 8 adorable great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her spouse, Noriyoshi Murakami, her son, Steve Murakami, and her granddaughter, Ashley Murakami.
