Sally Wood, 93, passed away January 16, 2011. She was born in Nebraska on August 1, 1917, but was a 65-year resident of Colorado Springs. She was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church. Sally was a Life Member of BPOE Elks Wives and 60+-year member and Past President of VFW #4051 Auxiliary. She loved bowling, having served on the Board of Directors for many years, and was inducted into the Colorado Springs Bowling Hall of Fame in 1992 for her many years of service and dedication. After her retirement, Sally volunteered for Care and Share. She also loved playing bingo in her later years and had many "bingo buddies" who were so good to her. Bill and Barbara Cremeans were very caring friends who often made sure she got to a good bingo game. Sally was an avid sports fan and loved her Rockies, "Cubbies," and Broncos.
Sally is survived by a son, Gayle "Woody" (Cindee) Wood and two daughters, Sherry Brunson and Dr. Sheila Vandenbush (Bob). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren (Lori Yarborough, Bobby Semler, Chris Wood, Andy Wood, Cassi Brunson), 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by 7 siblings and her husband of 62 years, Gene.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
