Mary Ann Bourne, 89, passed away on March 16, 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mary was born on April 28, 1921 to the late Bernard and Florence Sentena in Colorado Springs. She met her husband Hank in Colorado Springs and they spent a few years working and living at the zoo. After Hank’s term in the service during WWII, they moved to the Wolf Ranch for thirty years, during which time Mary worked for the Air Force Academy and retired. After retirement, Mary and Hank moved to the Banning-Lewis Ranch until Hank retired. Following Hank’s death, Mary resided in Walsenburg since 2000. She met many friends in Walsenburg. While in the nursing home, she was involved with the many activities that they had for their residents. Her favorite was to go ‘gambling’ when they played bingo. When she won her quarters, she was ‘rich’ again. Her favorite viewing place was at her table by the huge window where she could see the flag swaying, watch visitors at the lake across the highway, enjoy the change of the seasons and tell the maintenance people where they missed a spot or where they needed to pick up a piece of trash while caring for the grounds.
Mary’s interests included family gatherings at their home in Black Forest, watching the little ones hunt for Easter eggs and climbing the infamous ‘crooked tree,’ celebrating all of the holidays with family and friends because she loved to decorate and always did so lavishly to excite everyone, crocheting, church activities, camping and watching the Broncos. She made friends easily and nobody was ever a stranger.
Mary is survived by her son, Leland (Ingrid) Bourne; daughter, Sharon (Andy) O’Lear; sister, Josephine Davis; grandchildren, Cindy (Jeff) Edson, Joe (Stephanie) Bourne, Shawn (Jamie) Fournier, Erika (Troy) Price, Rebecca (Les) Johnson, Stephanie (Chris) Parsons, Pat (Theresa) O’Lear, Bill (Brenda) O’Lear and Betsy (Wayne) Harrison. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Hank and nine brothers and sisters
