Mary Sommers

Mary Margaret Sommers, 62, passed away Saturday, December 4th in Colorado Springs. She was born on January 24, 1948 in Victoria Texas and lived most of her life in Texas. She worked for the Texas Department of Agriculture in Austin for over 15 years. She moved to Colorado three years ago to be close to her daughter Kate Herdejurgen and her family. Mary Margaret had a lovely voice and enjoyed singing, particularly hymns and Christmas carols. She cherished the special relationship she had with her two granddaughters and was looking forward to the birth of another grandson. She also loved animals and Cheetah, her dog, has been cared for by Kate’s family for several years. Mary Margaret is survived by her mother Janie Slavik Sommers; as well as daughter Kate and her husband Seann Herdejurgen; her granddaughters Hannah and Natalie; her brothers Fred Sommers, III and his wife Erica, John Sommers and his wife Evelyn, Martin Sommers and James Sommers and his wife Chrissy. She is preceded in death by her father, Fred Sommers and her infant grandson, Thomas Herdejurgen. Services will be held Thursday, December 9th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 2650 Parish View Colorado Springs CO 80919 (719) 599-5091. A rosary will be recited at 2:30 pm, followed by the funeral mass. Inurnment will be at Mount St. Francis Columbarium on the grounds of the church followed by a small reception.
