Born April 27, 1971 in Wichita, KS, Melissa was the daughter of Frankie (Crabtree) Roland and Rev. Arnold Roland, Jr. For the past eleven years, Melissa had worked in housekeeping for the Medalion Retirement Community in Colorado Springs.
Melissa and her husband, Lee Hamilton, were married December 1, 1994 in Winfield, KS. They moved to Colorado Springs in 2008 and embraced the beauty and activities, enjoying walks in Garden of the Gods, Colorado College Hockey, Broadway at the Pikes Peak Center, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and camping. Melissa was loved and will be remembered by her husband Lee of 27 years, her mother Frankie and sister Ruth Roland (David Petersen), all of Colorado Springs. She will also be remembered by brothers Dan Roland (Peggy Brown) of Silverlake, OH, Sean Roland (Lynn Andrews) of Moraga, California, a niece, nephews, and many friends. Melissa was predeceased by her father Arnold and nephew Rian Roland.
Melissa knew how to live life and enjoyed bringing everyone along with her. She attended East United Methodist Church with her mother and sang in the choir when she could. She was adored by her niece and nephews, partly for her ability to play with them endlessly and her knack for pairing them with the stuffed animal they would most want to cuddle. After spending many days playing with Melissa and a Weebles Playhouse, her oldest nephew would mention her and “her little people” in his bedtime prayers. And a younger nephew still travels the country with the CareBear she gave to him as a baby. Once, she attended a college basketball kickoff practice event while visiting her brother at Kent State University. She and Lee signed up for an opportunity to be in an oncourt contest. Lee's name was called, but he wouldn't go down to the court so Melissa jumped up, ran onto the court and had a blast shooting baskets with the women's team. She kept her friends on social networks guessing what color she would dye her hair next, and loved the color purple and all things bling bling.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 23rd from 6 - 8pm at Swan Law Funeral Home. A funeral service and reception are scheduled for Friday, June 24th at 10:00am at East United Methodist Church followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery
