Michael was born on October 19, 1991 to Matthew and Karen Griffith in Boulder, Colorado. He transitioned to Heaven February 26, 2015 in Monument, CO. He is survived by his parents, 17-year old brother Kent, four first cousins, four aunts, and five uncles.
Michael was a loving and kind soul with a real zest for life. He loved high adventure outdoor sports including skiing, snowboarding, water skiing and tubing, swimming, rafting, climbing, caving and mountain biking. Michael learned to ski at Beaver Creek, Colorado as soon as he was “out of diapers” and became an accomplished skier. He loved to go fast, and was the last in his ski class to be allowed on the chair lift because he refused to stop or slow down and make turns. At a young age, he placed first in his age group in a ski race in Vail. Four-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Amy Van Dyken placed the winning gold medal around his neck. Michael often commented that had the family stayed in the Vail Area he would have pursued ski-racing.
As a member of Troop 6, Michael became an Eagle Scout and was very proud of the neighborhood park, located on Park Trail Drive in southwestern Monument, which he helped plan and build for his Eagle project. He wanted to construct the biggest playground possible for the children of Monument.
Michael became a member of the Monument Police Explorer Post 2010 after becoming an Eagle Scout. He participated in “ride-a-longs” on Monument Police Dept. patrols.
Michael attended Lewis Palmer School District 38 schools after the family moved to Monument in 2000. During his junior year and he transferred to Colorado Springs Early Colleges and graduated in 2012. He completed college classes at Colorado Technical University in economics, business, engineering and English.
After graduating he worked at McDonald’s, Toyota, and Memorial North Hospital. His most recent job was for Xerox Corporation providing technical support for XBOX gaming systems. He was working toward a career developing computer games as an individual “indie” gaming developer.
Michael was known for having a great sense of humor. He loved both board and computer games. He also loved to watch comedic videos and listen to humorous songs on U-Tube.
