While earning a B.S. in Business from Gustavus Adolphus College, she met Linn D. Gustafson. After her graduation in May 1964, they were married in Faribault, MN on August 29, 1964. They moved to California where Linn was serving in the United States Air Force. In 1966 the family, including daughter Amy Sue (b. 1966), was relocated to Wiesbaden, Germany. When Linn’s military service commitment was completed in August 1969, they returned to the United States with second daughter, Jennifer Elise (b. 1969).
They settled in Inglewood, CA and lived there until November 1971 when they moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Nora spent the rest of her life. A third daughter, Gretchen Suzanne (b. 1973) joined the family.
In 1987 Nora fulfilled one of her life’s dreams - to work in the legal profession. She graduated from Denver Paralegal Institute and worked for the next 25 years for various attorneys until she retired in 2014. She was a proud member of the legal profession in Colorado Springs. She was a registered parliamentarian and officiated at church and other organization meetings.
Nora was dedicated to her family and community, values she passed on to her children. She spent many years volunteering with the Girl Scouts as a leader, team director, team services director, neighborhood director, and worked on many committees and task forces. She was a life member of Girl Scouts and in 1991 was awarded the Thanks Badge which is the highest award the organization gives to a volunteer.
She also volunteered at her church, the Red Cross teaching First Aid and CPR, Crime Stoppers, and Teen Court, where she received the Volunteer of the Year award. She established the Neighborhood Watch in her home community. In her spare time she knitted dolls for TESSA and hats for newborn babies at Children’s Hospital and soldiers at Fort Carson.
Nora always loved music and played flute and piccolo during high school and college as well as in the church flute choir. She also played in the Colorado Springs Concert Band for 25 years. She also played piano, saxophone, and bagpipes - much to the horror of most of the neighbors.
Nora was an avid Denver Broncos fan and held season tickets for 15 years. She also attended many Colorado Rockies games each year and was a Silver Slugger. She spent many years cheering and keeping score for Linn’s various softball teams both in Los Angeles and Colorado Springs.
She died February 3, 2025 after a three year struggle with complications from a stroke and dementia. She remained mischievous and sarcastic to the end.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Linn, and her daughters, Amy Tingleff, husband Bill, and their three children, Julie, Shannon, and Christopher; Jennifer Warner, husband Chuck, and their two children, Joshua and Rachel; and Gretchen Wardell. She is also survived by her brother, Dwight Richard (Butch) Lockerby, Jr., and his wife Dianne, and sisters-in-law Lorraine Brownlee and Donna Lind. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Legend of Colorado Springs. Their love and compassion allowed Nora to be her full, sarcastic, loving self through her final days.
