

Norman F. Alvarez Jr, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. They supported him as his health declined this past year, and he persevered through his daily struggles with a brave face. Norman loved life and all those that were in it, from family and friends to people he just met. His exuberant, fun-loving personality brought joy and happiness to all that knew him.
For Norman, life began in Honolulu, Hawaii; he was born on January 25, 1952 to Norman F. Alvarez Sr. and Solidad Mansano. He was raised in Kahului, HI by his parents, and then spent the rest of his childhood with his grandparents until he was in High School. Growing up, he would go fishing with his father and would enjoy going to chicken fights with his grandparents.
Norman left Maui and joined the US. Army in 1971, he then served in the Army for 23 years. His background was in Army Aviation and Transportation with Huey helicopters and he became a maintenance crew chief; years later managing those that supported the helicopter units.
Norman's additional Army service was with various transportation units from Ft. Campbell, KY to multiple tours in Korea. Norman then became an Army Recruiter in Los Angeles, California, retiring at Fort Carson, Colorado. Norman received various awards throughout his Army career.
After Norman retired from the Army in 1994, he had a few positions in different companies, driving trucks with his CDL license. He then was hired by the City of Colorado Springs Transportation Division, working in the street division for 14 years. Norman then entered retirement, getting to spend more time with his wife and family at home.
Norman met many people through work and out of work. He was always a social person, enjoying his time off at home with his family, and out on his boat fishing.
Norman is survived by his wife Shawna, his children, John and Felisa (Justin Byers) his grandchildren Jayeln Alvarez, Josiah Elenez and Xavier Elenez, and extended family, including cousins. He is preceded in death are his parents, Norman F. Alvarez Sr. and Solidad Mansano, his grandparents and other family members, who he has now joined in Heaven.
Norman is greatly loved and missed by all who knew him.
He is forever in our hearts.
