Priscilla passed peacefully in her sleep on October 8, 2015. She was born March 8, 1942 to parents John and Barbara Chavez in Pueblo, Colorado. She grew up in a large Christian family with six sisters (Pauline, Angie, Ann, Gloria, Barbara and Lorraine) and two brothers (Louie and David).
Priscilla was raised by a God-fearing mother who trained and instilled in her a deep love for Jehovah and for Kingdom truths. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 11 on April 15, 1953. Priscilla first met her soon to be husband when he visited her local congregation. They were married on October 11, 1958 in Pueblo. They had one daughter Karen and two sons, Randy and Dennis before moving to Manitou Springs in 1966; four years later they welcomed another daughter, Nadine.
She was a loving, devoted and faithful wife. Her children describe her as beautiful, affectionate, supportive, funny, and strong. Her grandchildren describe her as wise, inspiring, selfless, and unique, a precious jewel and a best friend. Priscilla was well known for her flare of decorating, party planning, entertaining and her flawless talent as a seamstress. She was a wonderful Mexican cook and everyone raved about her Indian tacos, green chili, warm tortillas and sopapillas. Her home may have been small but the love within extended far beyond its walls. It was never too small to host numerous gatherings with many family and friends.
Priscilla loved telling others about God’s Kingdom, although health problems slowed down her door to door ministry she took full advantage of every opportunity that presented itself. During her recent stay at a rehabilitation facility she was able to place 56 magazines, 3 books and 6 bibles.
Priscilla was also known for her witty sense of humor and never passed on a chance to make you smile. One of her doctor’s complained of a headache and she told him to take two aspirin and to be sure to call her in the morning. Another doctor once asked her what was the least she ever weighed and she replied 7 lbs 10 ounces.
Priscilla was faithful to the end and she believed this was the best way of life. We all look forward to the day when we are all united together living in paradise where “no resident will say ‘I am sick.’” – Isaiah 33:24
John 5:28, 29
Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.
Revelations 21:3, 4 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Priscilla was an incredibly wonderful person. Everyone she was around, she brought joy to. She was a great example of a faithful servant to Jehovah. It’s a sure fine bet and it’s a beautiful and comforting thought that she is in Jehovah’s care and memory. The next thing she will experience is waking up in paradise. She was a very loving, genuine, happy person.— Dan Spaeth
A wife, a mother, a grandma and gigi too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
