Richard James Rickman, formerly of Centerville, Ohio, and a Colorado Springs resident since 2014, passed away June 28, at home, following a short illness. He was 83. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he served in the U.S. Army 1958-1960. A fire-protection engineer, he worked for Viking Fire Protection in Detroit, and also in Toledo, Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio.
The father of two sons, he served many years as an adult Scouter, Boy Scouts of America, holding several positions including Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Committee Chair of Troop 101, Centerville, Ohio. He was an active member of Centerville United Methodist Church from 1978 to 2014.
Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah; two sons, James (Amy) of Colorado Springs and Charles (Susan) of Smyrna, Georgia; four grandchildren, Katie, Alex, Daniel and Emaline; and four nephews, Bill and Bob Arthur and Andy and Jim Czajkowski. Preceding him in death were his parents, Eva and Ernest Rickman, two sisters Joann Arthur and Janet Czajkowski, and his niece Patty Arthur Joseph. Longtime friends from Michigan, the Rev. Gordon Nusz and wife Shirley and Jim and June Mansfield, also survive.
