Robert was born in Seattle, Washington, February 3, 1926 to his parents Lawrence Weller and Ruth Weller. He was the younger of two children. Robert and his family later moved to Pendleton, Oregon and then to Portland where he attended grammar school and high school.
After graduating high school, Robert was drafted into the U.S. Navy Reserve and honorably served from June 1944 to June 1946. He was a fire control specialist on board the USS George Clymer, an attack transport ship, near Okinawa, Japan.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Robert attended Oregon State University for two years and worked summers for the Oregon Forestry Service. Robert transferred from the Pacific Bell Company to the Mountain Bell Company in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1963. Robert and Iola adopted their daughter, Janice, in 1966 when she was 16 months old.
Robert lived out the rest of his life in Colorado Springs. He loved playing golf, skiing, and watching sports on television. He also loved the outdoors and seeing the fall colors in the mountains as the season changed from summer to fall. Spending time near the ocean was another favorite pastime, and vacations to Cannon Beach, Oregon are among the family’s fondest memories. Iola Weller preceded Robert in death on July 18, 2006.
