She was born in 1935 in Denver, Colorado to Ivan and Annette Bean. She was one of 6 children: Gary, Luella, Ronnie, Marilyn, and Charles. She met the love of her life, Robert Verne Holloway and they married in Salida, Colorado on June 11, 1965. Over their 58 years together, they worked to build a family business, a beautiful family, and a network of friends which they cherished. Together, they had 4 children: Richard Holloway, Bruce Holloway, Lynn Holloway, and Amy (Holloway) Wall. As the family grew, she openly welcomed Teri Holloway, Dianne Holloway, Brooke Bowman, and Glenn Wall into her loving arms. Together, Verne and Routhella watched their family grow to include 10 grandchildren (Shane Holloway, Dawn Holloway, Zach Holloway, Taylor Holloway, Karla Holloway, Lindsay Holloway, Garrett Holslag, Aaron Holslag, Dillon Wall, and Olivia Wall). She celebrated each addition to the family and had 5 great grandchildren. She was excited for the arrival of 2 new great grandchildren later this year.
Routhella was deeply committed to the Lord. She worked in her church community leading the Navigator series classes. She designed so many beautiful church murals for each of the holiday celebrations over the years. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she would decorate the family home each year. The highlight of the holiday was seeing the latest rendition of her Christmas tree, truly a sight to see each year. Each ornament was situated perfectly in its rightful place. All the ornaments were handmade or gifted to her with special meaning behind each one. On Christmas day, the thoughtful gifts that had been purchased were wrapped with care and each bow was hand made to perfection. Each package was a work of art and truly expressed her love of life, the Lord, and her family.
In addition to the love of her family, she cherished her family pets. She had many in her lifetime that were blessed to be loved so dearly; Cleo, Samantha, Lucy, Schroeder, Bailey, Benson, and Fargo to name just a few.
She worked alongside Verne Holloway, developing the family business; Holloway Tax Service and Holloway Investments, which was established in 1980. This too was a labor of love they shared. Through the business, they met numerous clients who also became lifelong friends.
Routhella was a devoted reader, and with the loss of her eyesight, she continued reading though audio books. She spent much of her time listening to biographies or histories. Routhella was also an avid sports fan, spending weekends watching and listening to football and basketball games. She loved her flower garden, the Peanuts cartoon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and movies including the Pink Panther.
She is survived by her husband, Verne Holloway, 4 children- Richard, Bruce, Lynn and Amy, sister Marilynn, and all her grandchildren and great grandchildren who will work to carry on without her. In her own words… “Grief is the price we pay for love,” and we were all so loved by her. She was our greatest cheerleader and will be dearly missed. She has now been welcomed into the open arms of Jesus in the heavens above.
The celebration of Routhella’s life will be held on June 8, 2023, at 1:00PM at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.
