

Retired Lt. Colonel Royce D. Smith age 89 passed away on October 14, 2013 in Denver, CO. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968and the US General Accounting Office, Denver, CO in 1986. Lt. Col. Smith was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and 2 Air Force Commendation Medals. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and Walden Masonic Lodge #274 AFM in Greenville, SC. Royce was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO for 41 years and Lakewood, CO for many years until he passed in Denver in October. A graveside service is taking place on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 12:30pm at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Rd., Colorado Springs, CO.
Lt. Col. Smith was born January 5, 1924 in Greenville, SC to Walter and Annie (Coloeman) Smith. He married Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Brooks of Greenville in January 1944. She preceded him in death. He was remarried in Colorado Springs on February 3, 1990 to Jean Lakey. She also preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Johnson of Littleton, CO, a granddaughter Karie and her husband Matt Dean also of Littleton, a son Randall of Buffalo Grove, IL, a brother Kenton Smith of Titusville, FL, and two great grandchildren Nathaniel and Kate Dean. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Heart Association.
