Ruth Schneider Knox was an exceptional person who lived life enthusiastically with integrity, creativity, and humor. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt, and a committed and loyal friend and community member. Ruth died suddenly after a brief illness on Thursday February 20th. Ruth was born in Schenectady New York on April 7, 1947 to Sadie Flax Schneider and Fred Schneider of blessed memory.
She graduated from American University and obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of New York at Albany and a Master Degree in Business Administration from St Mary’s University San Antonio Texas. Ruth was a strong independent person who was creative and artistic. Her art room was filled with projects in a variety of mediums including stained glass, walking stones, and jewelry. Ruth had a strong affinity for four legged creatures. She was passionately committed to the care of her own dogs and she also volunteered for many years at All Breed Rescue and Training. Over the last fifty years, she owned and trained seven dogs. Each Saturday morning, she took her dogs to train and compete.
While her dogs were her passion, she was also a true gift to her human community. She moved to Colorado Springs over thirty years ago with her husband Roger Knox who passed away shortly after their arrival.
She worked at USAA for over twenty years where she made lifelong friends. While her family was spread out across the United States, she created a family of friends from work and her neighborhood that she cared for and who cared for her. Her home was a gathering place for many holiday celebrations and delicious meals. Her cookies and rugelach were much in demand. She joined Congregation Beit Torah in Colorado Springs and found comfort in its community.
She is survived by her sister Diane Schneider and her wife Paula Herrington, her brother Stanley Schneider and his wife Susan, her niece Alexandra Fine and her husband Max Fine, her nephew Michael Schneider and his wife Rachel and her great niece and nephew Andrew Fine, Yael Fine and Eli Schneider. She is also survived by her cousins Bruce Flax, Steven Flax, Donna Flax, Andrea Flax, David Flax, Debbie Kaflowitz, and Margaret and Kal Schneider. She was preceded in death by her parents, uncles, aunts and her loving husband Roger Knox.
Ruth’s family would like to thank all her friends who helped her daily, from shoveling her driveway to taking care of her dog or driving her to the doctor when needed. Ruth was loved by her friends, and she loved them. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Breed Rescue and Training Colorado Springs or Congregation Beit Torah in Colorado Springs.
