Ryan G. Pappas, beloved son, brother, and grandson passed away as a result of a tragic accident on September 1, 2014 in Monument, Colorado. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, August 29, 1996 the first of two children born to
Susan and Glen Pappas.
At the time of his passing, Ryan had just begun his senior year at Palmer Ridge High School, and his dream was to play collegiate baseball after graduation, and ultimately professional baseball.
While he was a wonderfully-talented baseball player – initially as a catcher, and more recently as a middle-infielder and pitcher –what really set Ryan apart was his hustle, competitiveness and team spirit. As a result of these ‘intangibles,’ as well as his love for the game and ‘coach-ability,’ Ryan was adored by numerous coaches and managers that he played for over the past 10 years (on teams from Albuquerque to Denver, and cities in-between). It was common for these team leaders to express sentiments along the lines of,” If only I had a team full of Ryans”.
Ryan also enjoyed soccer, snowboarding, cliff jumping…actually he enjoyed anything/ everything physical that provided an adrenaline rush.
Friends were extremely important to Ryan, and he had lots of them, and he made most of them effortlessly. On the baseball field, on the many teams he played, Ryan was always amongst the most liked. And similar applied off the field, regardless of the venue/ setting. The best testament to this aspect of Ryan is the fact that, despite living in several cities in his short life – primarily Alexandria, Virginia; Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Monument – he made ‘life-long’ friends in each and every one of them.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, loving parents, Susan and Glen; brother and best friend, Brandon; grandparents, Patricia Pappas, and Barbara Mulligan, and Joseph Mulligan; as well as a host of wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 2655 Briargate Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
