Shana Danee Barbera, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs and a vibrant, ambitious soul, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 17, 2026, at UC Health Hospital in the ICU with her family by her side. She was 40 years old.
From a young age, Shana was a go-getter. While others were finding their footing, Shana was racing toward the horizon, ready to experience life and take on the world. She possessed a rare combination of a tireless work ethic and a joyful, happy spirit that made her a natural leader and a friend to everyone she met.
Shana’s passion for the hospitality industry began at age 13, working alongside her mother at Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co. This early experience sparked a dream of one day owning her own restaurants. Her career was a testament to her dedication, from numerous restaurants to restaurant management at The Broadmoor Hotel and Garden of the Gods Club and Resort. Most recently, she served as a General Manager of IHOP, where her leadership and "people-first" attitude truly shone.
While Shana was proud of her professional achievements, her greatest pride and joy was her daughter, Rayne. Shana raised Rayne from the age of five months, and she was the light of her mother's life. Shana’s primary purpose for Rayne was to ensure her a beautiful life.
Shana loved to travel and cherished time spent with her friends and family. She enjoyed her many years as a Girl Scout troop leader and cookie mom. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her resilience and her big dreams.
Shana is preceded in life by her father, Dana Barbera. She is survived by her daughter, Rayne (17); lifelong partner, Aaron Schwarzbauer; mother, Theresa Barbera; brother, Chase Barbera and Celestina; fiancé, Zac Abbott; and aunts and uncles: Mike and Phyllis, Thomas and Virginia, John and Susan, Randal and Diane, Domenick and Sherry, as well as numerous cousins, great-cousins and many dear friends.
A visitation for Shana will be held from 11am to 12pm on Thursday, April 30, at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. A Catholic Funeral Rite will begin at 12pm, followed by a graveside interment. A celebration of life reception will be announced at the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a memorial fund established for Rayne’s future. Shana’s greatest wish was to see her daughter succeed and thrive. Contributions can be made via GoFundMe at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-raynes-future-after-loss
“May her joyous spirit and bright smile find rest, and may her soul be at home in Heaven amidst the same sunshine she brought to everyone she met.”
