Sharon M Barnes, a shining star who graced this world with her loving kindness, passed away on April 21, 2026. She was born on April 3, 1940 in Cadillac, MI to Viola Marie (Scott) Lohnes and Howard Emory Lohnes. At the age of two, the family moved to Independence, MO. She attended elementary school in Parkville, MO and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1958. She went on to pursue a nursing career and graduated with her Registered Nurse Degree from Independence Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Johnny D Myers in 1962 and was blessed to have three daughters, Wendy, Denise and Kimberly and was also blessed to become stepmother to Deborah when marrying Johnny. When she married Lee Barnes in 1983, she was blessed with two stepsons Loren and Brett. Sharon was a wonderful and caring mother who gave unconditional love and support to her children.
In 1981 she moved from Independence, MO to Colorado Springs, CO. She and Lee were married in 1983 and were together 38 years until his death in 2021. Sharon and Lee adored each other. They took many trips to Lake Dillon, CO enjoying each other’s sense of humor and love for life! She stood out in a crowd not only because of her beauty, but her inner glow drew people to her.
Sharon’s natural seamstress skills were sought out by family and friends and a talent she enjoyed sharing with others. She enjoyed gardening and those who ate her canned goods, reaped the benefits of her working in her kitchen over the pressure cooker! Her passion of caring for others in her nursing career was a part of the fiber of her being as was spending time with family and friends and her pets. Whether gathered around the kitchen table, hanging out on the patio, camping or traveling, she had a fun time! Sharon also loved animals. She grew up having family pets and over the years loved and cared for many, including her cats and feeding birds and squirrels in her backyard!
Gathering around her kitchen table was always a treat, for you knew you would never go away hungry and anticipated every delicious bite. What a cook! She loved music and was very involved in her church, children’s schools and daughters’ activities and especially loved being a room mother for several years. She sang in choirs in nursing school and church where she played the piano for church services. Most of all, she wanted to be remembered for how much she loved her family.
