With deep love and sadness, the family of Stanley E. Bowers announces his peaceful passing on June 11, 2025, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by love at the home he shared with his devoted daughter Belinda Hart and son-in-law Tony Hart by his side in Black Forest, CO.
Stanley was born on December 10, 1936, in York, Pennsylvania, to Harry Wesley Bowers Sr. and Goldie Mae Hoff (Bowers). After completing eight years of schooling, he held a number of jobs including working at the York Peppermint Patty Factory in Pennsylvania, before joining the United States Army at age 18. He proudly served in the 9th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he earned a Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar and was honorably discharged.
Stanley made Colorado Springs his home, where he met his wife of 51 years, Ethel Bowers, while working as an attendant at a local gas station. He raised his family, and built a life rooted in dedication and love. He was a hard working man, he held several jobs over the years and earned a certificate in Auto Mechanics from El Paso Community College, pursuing a lifelong passion for auto mechanics. He also found peace and joy in fishing, one of his favorite pastimes. He also had a passion for guns and knives, and never turned down any chocolate sweet.
He later retired after a respected 30-year career as a Civil Service Grounds Supervisor at Fort Carson, where he was known for his strong work ethic, humility, and steady presence. His work ethic was continually acknowledged and he received several awards for his contributions.
Stanley will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. A devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather, he made a lasting impact on all who knew him through his warmth, patience, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his daughters Belinda Hart (Tony Hart) and Teresa Schneweis (Dusty Schneweis); his siblings Deborah Smith, Darlene Leese, and Gary Bowers (Marcia Gladfelter); and his grandchildren:
- Melissa Scott (Jason Scott)
- Michelle Lyons
- Sara Williams (Michael Lane)
- David Buckley
- Joseph McCarville
He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, and is lovingly remembered alongside his late granddaughter, Samantha Hemric.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Bowers; his parents; his eldest brother, Harry “Son” Bowers; and two younger brothers, Glen and Richard, who were stillborn.
A private celebration of Stanley’s life will be held.
