He is survived by his wife Carolyn (Karen) of 62 years; his three children, Sherri (Tom) Young of Gold Canyon, AZ; Steve (Julie) Strauch of Colorado Springs; Janice (Joe) Skocich of Colorado Springs; and his three grandchildren, Mitch, Meagan, and Joel; seven brothers and sisters: Claude (Mary Ann) Strauch of Richville, MN; Kathleen (Fred) DeWeese of Lake St Louis, MO; Rebecca (Stanley Zupnik) Way of Cabin John, MD; Mary Sue Biggins of Orange Park, FL; Thomas Strauch of Newman, GA; Corrine Hayden of Fergus Falls, Priscilla (Mark) Hovland of Fergus Falls; Theresa Lake of Howell, MI, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stan was born in Dent, MN. As a young man, he came to Colorado and learned the floor covering trade from his Uncle Lawrny. He was drafted and served in the army from 1958-1960 in Ft Lewis, WA, meeting the love of his life Karen in Tacoma, WA.
They were married in May of 1961 in Aberdeen, WA. Continuing his floor covering trade, he started his own business, “Stans Floor Covering,” where he shared his knowledge and craftsmanship with his son, several nephews, and many others. After “retiring,” he continued with his passion for construction doing remodels, building new homes and other projects until his very last days.
Other passions in his life included fishing in Minnesota - Colorado - Washington - Alaska, elk hunting, camping, card games and trips to visit family. Stan was very proud of his grandchildren, he enjoyed attending their sports matches, granddaughter’s horseback riding, and just spending time with them. He took great pride working side by side with them on their own remodel, their parents houses, other projects and taught them skills they will remember for a lifetime. Stan (and Karen) became snowbirds after he built their 2nd home in Arizona City, AZ, and enjoyed 27 warm winters and meeting new friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn, brothers Gerald, Jim, and sisters Joan and Patricia.
