

Stephen Edwin Murray left this life to join his wife and oldest daughter in heaven on April 12, 2012. He was born December 20, 1945 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. He is survived by his youngest daughter, Allison (Brian) Guthrie of Colorado Springs, his grandson, Jackson Guthrie, his brother, Philip Murray of Penrose, Colorado and a niece and four nephews. His wife, Laura Jeanne (Biddle) Murray preceded him in death on April 1, 2008 and his daughter, Meredith Jeanne Murray preceded him in death on May 8, 2008.
Stephen attended elementary and middle school in Oklahoma City and moved to Colorado Springs in high school, where he attended Roy J. Wasson High School. He graduated from Wasson in 1964.
Stephen graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish. After graduation, he married Laura Jeanne Biddle in 1969 and moved back to Colorado Springs. While teaching, he completed his master’s degree in Education at the Colorado College.
Stephen’s teaching career spanned 33 years at Steele, Fremont, and Keller Elementary Schools in District 11.
Stephen was a kind, thoughtful and generous person, who was truly interested in others. He never met a stranger and loved meeting new people and making new friends. He loved Colorado and enjoyed playing the tour guide for visiting friends and family. He was the kind of teacher who made a real difference in the lives of his students. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
Stephen will be severely missed by his family and friends mostly because of his kindness and friendliness toward everyone.
A memorial service will be held at Springs First Nazarene Church L.A.C. (East Entrance) 4120 E. Fountain Blvd. on Tuesday, April 17th at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. Checks may be made out to Springs First Nazarene Church and designated for the “Stephen Murray Memorial.”
