Susan Kotval was born Susan Louie on October 9, 1932 in Chicago , IL, the seventh of ten siblings. When she was just one year old the family moved to China where she lived until she was eight (1940) and then returned to the U.S. with her four sisters (her parents and three brothers had returned three years earlier).
She attended elementary school and Catholic high school in Chicago's Chinatown and then paid her own way through four years of study at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, graduating with a degree in occupational therapy in 1956.
She married Dr. Edmund Tong in 1957 and moved every few years after that due to Edmund's army
career. During this time they had three children - Kevin, Syrilyn and Clayton. They eventually settled in Colorado Springs in 1973.
In 1981 she and Edmund divorced and she took up a highly successful second career selling real estate. In 1987 she married Mr. Les Kotval and retired from real estate. She spent many happy years with Les in traveling, entertaining and playing tennis. Both experienced health problems in their later years and Les passed away in 2018.
Susan sold their house the following year and moved to Brookdale Assisted Living Facility where she passed away from natural causes on June 2, 2020.
