Sylvia Ruth Korsmo, 69, of Colorado Springs died April 7, 2011 at Penrose Hospital. She was born January
4, 1942 at Fairfax, Minnesota, to Elenore Rieke Korsmo and Anton Korsmo.
Sylvia graduated from Fairfax High School in 1959 then went to Cosmetology school in Minneapolis. She
worked as a beautician in Minneapolis and later in Redondo Beach and San Francisco, California. In 1969
she changed professions and did Bookkeeping and light Accounting for Bank of California and Becktel
Steel. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1989. She worked in Retail at J.C. Penney until 2008 when she
was diagnosed with cancer.
She is survived by her brother Charles, sister Diann Pierce, Gloria and Joel Kugler, Karrol and Robert
Barbieri, one niece Brenda Pierce Knutson, one nephew Bryan Pierce, two grand-nephews Andrew and
Derek Thacker.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother-in-law Dale Pierce.
Sylvia was an accomplished quilter and donated many of her small quilted wall hangings to the
Minnesota Quilt Show and Conference Scholarship Fund. She also enjoyed working with flowers, Penny
Slot machines, traveling and sleeping.
Services will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO, on
Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
