

He was born in Great Bend Kansas, to Mary Frances Busby and Homer Earl Busby. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO when he was 7 years old. With the exception of his college years in Fort Collins, CO, Terry spent the next 77 years in Colorado Springs.
Terry attended Colorado Springs High School where he met his wife of 62 years, Joyce Lea Godec. The couple dated for six years before they got married. They were married at First Presbyterian Church on August 21, 1960.
Terry graduated from Colorado Springs High School in the spring of 1955. During His 3 years there, he participated in both football and wrestling. After graduation, Terry attended Colorado State University (“CSU”) on a wrestling scholarship and he graduated in 1959. While at CSU in Fort Collins, he earned three varsity letters in wrestling. He received a Master’s Degree from CSU in physical education and mathematics in the summer of 1961. That fall, he joined the staff at Cheyenne Mountain School District (“CMSD”) as an instructor and coach. In the summer of 1970, Terry attended CSU and received his administrative license. During his tenure at CMSD, he taught Mathematics, Science and Physical Education. He coached football as an assistant and head coach, wrestling as head coach, and ran the track program. Most of his career, Terry served in the administration office as the Assistant Principal of Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School as well as the District Athletic Director. The students loved and respected him in all of his roles. He was kind, quick witted, and caring with the students. Terry also met life-long friends through his work at CMSD. After 32 years, Terry retired from CMSD and spent the next 20 years working and golfing at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs. He retired from Patty Jewett after he suffered a stroke and could no longer play golf. For the next years, he spent time with friends at his favorite restaurant “The Point”. He continued to enjoy all sports on television.
Terry and Joyce had two daughters – Shelly Lea Busby and Lori Busby Sarine. The couple raised their girls in the Cheyenne Mountain area and both girls attended the school district where Terry worked. He was a strong family man and took very good care of his girls. He helped with homework, sports, car repairs, and offered general support. Both girls knew they could call him at a moment’s notice and he would be there. The family took many camping-fishing trips during the summers and spent most Spring Breaks in Phoenix Arizona where an abundance of good memories ensued. Terry also built a house in Breckenridge in 1979. The family enjoyed many weeks at the Breckenridge house and loved the time there. Terry had three granddaughters whom he loved with all his heart. The girls always put a smile on his face. He was very generous and kind with his granddaughters and they all loved him dearly.
Terry was an avid sports fan and always had a game on TV. Terry especially loved his Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. For years, he had season tickets to the Broncos. He attended two Super Bowls including Denver’s first win in Super Bowl 32. He also attended too many Rockies games to count.
Terry was an active and long-term member at First Presbyterian Church. When his girls were teenagers, he was often flipping burgers for the youth group called “Something Fishy”. In his younger years, he played on the church slow pitch softball team. He attended worship regularly as well as attending Sunday school in the Pathfinders class. Terry and Joyce met life-long friends that remained throughout his life through the community at First Presbyterian Church. They participated in a monthly pinochle card group with these friends as well as traveled both internationally and within the United States with their dear friends from church and CMSD.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents Homer Earl Busby and Mary Frances Busby. Terry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Lea Busby, by his daughters, Shelly Lea Busby of Colorado Springs, CO and Lori Busby Sarine (Steve) of Littleton, CO, by his brother Dennis Earl Busby (Dana) of Gold Canyon, AZ, by his nephew Dean Busby of Bend, OR, by his niece Kendra Busby of Delray Beach, FL and his precious granddaughters whom he adored, Hannah Lea Sarine of Westminster, CO, Sienna Grace Busby of Colorado Springs, CO, and Halli Rose Sarine of Littleton, CO.
A celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church Colorado Springs on Wednesday April 26, 2023 at noon. A reception will follow the service at the Church.
