Theodore Lujan

Having led a long and full life, Theodore (Ted ) Lujan passed away on June 30, 2011 at the age of 87. Ted was born on June 20, 1924 in Eaton, CO to Eulalio Lujan and Petra (Tapia) Lujan. In 1943, Ted enlisted in the US Army-Air Corp, beginning a career spanning 35 years of combined service to his country —22 years as an Air Force Tech Controller and 13 years as a Civil Service Communications Specialist. Ted’s military career took him to over 44 countries. In 1960, Ted and his four young children were stationed in Japan. In 1962, Ted met and married Miwako Hori. For the next 49 years, and up to the very end, Ted and Miwako were inseparable.

Ted was an avid golfer for whom the sport was a passion, not a just weekend hobby. He played the game, he studied the course layout, and yes, he occasionally threw a club or two in the lake (but what true golfer hasn’t?). He avidly followed his favorite sports, bowling, baseball and football, and could always recite the current standings and statistics. Ted was a man with high expectations, who came from a family of limited means, but built a good life for himself and his family through hard work and continual self-education. He loved history, travel and reading Western and mystery novels. He enjoyed comedy and jokes and will be remembered for a quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Miwako (Hori) Lujan (Colorado Springs, CO), a brother, Ambrose Lujan (Denver, CO), daughters Dorothy Perimon (San Marcos, CA), Carmen Hartin (Littleton, CO), Becky and son-in-law Kerry George (Colorado Springs, CO), son, Chris and daughter-in-law Sharon Lujan (Peyton, CO); 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, Friday July 8, 2011 at 11:00 am, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO
