

Thomas E. Hettle made it to his final camping spot on March 17, 2012. He was born June 3, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1969, retiring a Lt. Colonel. Serving tours in Korean and Vietnam Wars. Awarded two purple hearts and silver star. In the following years, his career stops included Johnson Pontiac, American Family Insurance, and Winnebago Industries.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his three sons Michael J. (Helen), Patrick T. (Mary), and John J. (Janet), five grandchildren (Chan, Cynthia, Beau, Aaron, and Joseph), nine great grandchildren (Caitlin, Evan, Eligh, Brandon, Ben, Alex, Abigail, Liliana, and Levigh) , one great great grandson Brayden, and brother Larry (Jackie).
He was preceded in death by his father John Hettle, mother Mable Hettle, and the love of his life Donna, his wife of 56 years, and grandson Michael.
His life was filled with travel, hunting, fishing, golf, and motorhome camping adventures. Despite many serious health issues, he was determined to live a full life. He was a true warrior in all he did. He loved his country and the military.
A viewing and Rosary will be held on March 21, 2012 at Swan Law Funeral Directors 501 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The viewing will start at 5PM with Rosary at 6 PM.
The Memorial Mass will follow on March 22, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 W. Colorado Ave. Colorado Springs, Colorado at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Association, Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
