

Thomas Altas Nickerson of Colorado Springs, age 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 21st 2017 surrounded by his family. “Buddy” as he would later be known, was born on May 14th, 1939. He was the ninth of eleven children to the late William B. and Catherine M. Nickerson of Wheeling, West Virginia. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Monika M. Nickerson, loving children Jenny, and Tom Nickerson of Aurora, Colorado; dedicated grandchildren Joshua (Robin), Mikey (Candance), and Ashley (Gil); six precious granddaughters, as well as a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1957. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force retiring in 1985 while working as the Chief Air Traffic Controller. He moved to Colorado Springs in the summer of 1985 and started his second career as a real estate agent. He then retired from real estate in 2002. Additionally during his military career, he volunteered and coached for The Ohio State University Bowling Team in 1980.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Wednesday June 28th, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. at the Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. A private burial will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
