I first met Bill, "The Chief" in 2015 when I was introduced to him through a third party on LinkedIn that said he was pursuing a vision for developing a "Veteran Village" in Colorado Springs to help struggling vets with transition services, and housing alternatives.  At the time I was in the early stages of exploring the Tiny House movement as a possible solution to affordable housing, while Bill was developing RMVVF, or Rocky Mountain Veterans Village Foundation.   It was, and continues to be a real vision for developing a comprehensive solution for Veterans needing support.  I was always amazed by his "Positive "Get-it-Done Attitude" to make his dream a reality, and the way he was able to gain support from others through his leadership skills and his never wavering "Force of Will".  

Bill was a true patriot, loved his country, and had a huge heart for Veterans, and was genuinely concerned for their welfare and care.   Bill will be truly missed by both his immediately family, (who we extend our deepest condolences to) and those Veterans he helped personally.   However, he also will leave, an indelible long lasting memory in the hearts of many of the people he interacted with briefly, and in various personal and professional situations along his life's journey. 

And so... I was one of those fortunate individuals to have met Bill, had worked with him for a short-time, and came away with an impression of him that I will never forget.

Rest in Peace Chief.  Your Tour has completed, and Your Mission was Accomplished...

I met the Chief almost 2 1/2 years ago. I had lost my job and my home. I was desperate and he gave me hope for the future. When he spoke of his mission to help struggling veterans I embraced his mission and attempted to give back to him what he so selflessly gave of himself. His mission will carry on for as long as I have breath, his dream for veterans and their families will continue to flourish from the seeds he planted! May God ring out your glory in heaven my brother you are and always will be missed.

I first met Bill when I came to Colorado Springs on leave for the holidays in 2013, and he was present when my husband and I got married (we had a small ceremony at a charity auction he was running). He was so kind and welcoming, and at the time, my husband was helping with RMVVF whenever he could. If Bill didn't see us for a while, he would call to check in on us, just to make sure we were okay. His passion to help Veterans was extended to us because he knew we were both Veterans. He had such a big, caring heart, and through all our struggles, he was always willing to help us out if we ever needed it. He was such a sweet man, and he will be sorely missed. 


We first met Bill at a round table meeting that was initiated to bring attention to suffering veterans in our state.  After learning about how our son, Cpl. Noah Henry Harter, USMC, fell through the cracks in the Veterans Administration (see: Gazette Telegraph May 2017 "An Ideal Marine") , Bill came up to us and said: " I am doing something that will make a difference in the lives of men & women like your son."  I, Kim, have observed Bill's enthusiasm in helping veterans, when I brought a neighbor, a veteran suffering with PTSD, to see Bill. Bill was encouraging & gave this young man hope for the future.  This young man is now doing well partly due to Bill’s encouragement. We will always remember Bill as a caring, dedicated friend to veterans & to us. The "Chief" truly made this world a better place.  Our Deepest Sympathies go out to his son, Dan & wife, Erica.


When Sonja and I moved to the Colorado Springs area, Bill was one of the first to extend a welcoming hand.  He was a outstanding leader and role model in the community, always willing to help others and with an unbounded passion for helping vets needing assistance.  We will miss his warm smile and chats over coffee.  Bill was a true treasure and will be sorely missed.

     

Prayers for Bill and your family.  He was a good man who was always looking out for others.  

Bill was a supportive friend and encouraged me in my Pro Life calling.  He was a great Knight and loved our Church.  God receive you well and bless your family.

Bill - was a good friend always ready and willing to lend a hand.  He had a heart for our veterans that was unparallel.  He will be sorely missed, heaven has gained a wonderful Cheif
