William Lyle Martin

William (Bill) Lyle Martin passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 13, 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 88. Born on July 14, 1935, in Osakis, Minnesota to Lyle and Bertha Martin (Hoerner), Bill was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. Bill served at a young age as an altar boy and later a member of the Knights of Columbus. A dedicated Boy Scout, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

In 1953, Bill graduated from Central High School. He attended St John’s University and then transferred to the University of Minnesota where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. On January 28, 1961, Bill was united in holy matrimony to Val Larson of Alexandria, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: Sheila, Shelley and Jeff. After a 35-year career in the banking industry, Bill retired in Colorado in 1995.

A devoted family man, Bill was an avid basketball, football, and hockey fan. He also enjoyed being involved in his community, volunteering at the local food bank and serving as Treasurer for his homeowner’s association, among other activities. Travel enthusiasts, Bill and Val visited every state and many countries in their 63 years of marriage.

Surviving him is his wife Val, his children Sheila (Kelly) Tracy, Shelley Simpson and Jeff (Gloria) Martin and five grandchildren. Justin Simpson, Trenton Tracy, Brandon (Caroline) Simpson, Santiago Martin, and Gabriela Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia (Virg) Tollifson, and granddaughter Maria Tracy. Memorial Services were held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs.
