

Passed away peacefully March 5, 2012 at the age of 80. Picho was born September 11, 1931. He was a lifelong resident of Redlands. Picho is survived by his three children; Howard and Rod Garcia both of Redlands and Denise Whipple of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters, Vera Alvarez of Hesperia, CA, Eleanor Delgado and Gloria Pruitt both of Redlands; and two grandchildren, Matthew Garcia and Alyx Whipple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Garcia of 57 years; his parents Frank and Concepcion Garcia of Redlands; his siblings Raul and Milo Garcia both of Redlands and sister Esther Alanis of Fontana, CA.
Picho graduated from Redlands High School in 1950. He lettered in track and baseball. Picho served in the US Navy from 1951 – 1955. He continued his civil service to the US from 1959- 1965 as a mechanic on “Minute-Man” missiles. He retired as a Stationary Engineer from Patton State Hospital in 1995 after 25 years of service. He has been a member of the American Legion Post 650 since 1965 and served as Commander 6 terms during those years. His passion in life was playing softball/baseball and played professional softball for many years in the San Bernardino area thus leading him to coach in the years of 1973 – 1975 and 1981 – 1983 for the American Legion Post 650 baseball team. In 2000, Picho received the Northside Impact Committee Latino Award for his contributions to the Latino Community of Redlands. In his retirement years he enjoyed playing golf, travel and spending time with his two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Montecito Memorial Park on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment immediately following.
