It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Ayon Ceballos on March 1, 2019. She passed away peacefully at the age of 81. She was born on June 6, 1937, to Ospicio Ayon y Lucia Ruiz in the small town of Betias in Durango, Mexico. She was the youngest of five children. Bertha is survived by her husband Juan Ceballos and her 11 children.
Growing up a farm girl in Mexico, she loved the outdoors and was a great swimmer. Her family lived closed to a river where they would go catch shrimp. She would eventually meet the love of her life by this river and he would give her the sweet nickname of “Camaronera.” Her mother, Lucia, passed away at a young age and left Bertha without a motherly figure in her life. She would eventually become a loving and self-sacrificing mother to all of her children, even after losing that important motherly figure in her life at such a young age.
Bertha was wonderfully devoted to her 11 children: Jose, Israel, Ana, Juan, Miguel, Victor, Jesus, Santiago, Lupita, Valentin and Jaime. She was a loving Grandmother to 46 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and counting. Her family was everything to her and her love for them was unconditional. Loving, loyal, determined and dedicated are words that can describe the type of person she was towards her family and the ones she loved.
She was a strong, determined, hard working mother and business woman who made selfless sacrifices so that her family would have a better life. Though small in stature, she was the strength of her family and the heart of her home. With her loving and encouraging words she kept her family grounded and united.
Bertha is now resting in our Father’s arms. She will be forever missed and will always live in our hearts. Our love for her will live on until we meet again.
