

Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, moved to La Mesa, CA, started a family, then moved to Lakeside, CA, later moving to Redlands, CA.
In his lifetime, David was a carpenter with his father, a building inspector for San Diego County, a safety engineer for Cal/OSHA, owner of Casa Del Rey retirement hotel in Redlands, owner of Bonnie’s Travel Service in Sunnymead, CA. He and his wife Bonnie Schumaker were married for 69 years until her passing in November 2017.
David’s passion and interest was traveling. He went on 124 cruises, traveled all 7 Continents, 121 Countries in the world as well as traveling in their motorhome across the United States-traveled the entire country 3 times. On their 2-3 month motorhome trips, he wrote journals and had quite the knack for describing things they saw and did, including photos. He would then email them to family and friends and everyone enjoyed reading them. In addition to their own journeys, they were members of a RV club, making many friends on local trips. David also had a motorcycle and he and Bonnie joined a group called the Retreads, having many enjoyable rides.
David is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Schumaker, and also recently his sister Marti Schmidt, of La Mesa, CA.
David is survived by children, Vicki Jessup, of Redlands; Steve (Carolyn) Schumaker, of Mentone; Tom Schumaker, of Redlands; Terri (Tom) Chaffin, of Yucaipa. Also 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. And sister Nancy Grant, of Lakewood, CA
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
