At just 16 years old, Fernando began working at K&Z Cabinet, where he quickly became known for his dedication, reliability,
and eagerness to learn. His early years shaped a work ethic and integrity that would define him
throughout his life.
Fernando’s career blossomed when he joined the Southwest Regional Council
of Carpenters. Through years of commitment, he rose to become a respected agent and later
served as the Financial Secretary of Local 721. Under his leadership, the Local achieved
significant victories—most notably a groundbreaking contract with aerospace companies, a feat
many had attempted before him. His negotiations improved wages, benefits, and working
conditions for thousands of carpenters and their families. Fernando’s tireless advocacy,
honesty, and compassion earned him the deep respect of his colleagues and the communities he
served.
But beyond his professional accomplishments, Fernando was a devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and friend. He found joy in life’s simple blessings—sharing meals, heartfelt
conversations, and laughter with the people he loved. He had a way of making time stand still
when telling stories, holding space for connection, love, and memories.
