Gerald Akram Rai was born to Samuel and Resham Rai on February 6, 1952 in Chuharkana, Pakistan. He was the youngest of four children; Edward, Richard and Edline were his older siblings. As a child he grew up in a loving Christian family, and was generally recognized by close relatives and family members for being especially close to his mother. Growing up, he adored and respected his older siblings. This was a trait that would be central to his life for as long as he lived. He completed his high school studies in Karachi, Pakistan. While in Karachi, he pursued professional studies in nursing at the Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital. It was in nursing school that he met his wife, Nora. They got married on December 28, 1975. After their marriage, they decided to move to the United States. Together they had three beautiful children and remained dedicated to one another for almost 37 years. Gerald worked at Patton State Hospital for almost 20 years and was loved dearly by his colleagues and superiors. As a family man, he was a loving, kind, patient, and understanding father. He was a faithful, hardworking and committed provider for his family, a dedicated husband to his lovely wife Nora. We pay tribute to a special husband, father, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him, and remembered for his beautiful smile, kind eyes and trademark beard. He was a man of few words but was always able to leave an impression on the hearts of those he came in contact with.
