Guy Frederick Earl was born on December 29, 1942 in Santa Monica, California to Edna Earl and Clair Earl. He was raised in North Hollywood along with his brother Craig Earl and his cousins Dennis Earl and Gary Earl who lived next door. After graduating from North Hollywood High School, he continued his education at Glendale Jr. College and CalPoly San Luis Obisbo. After some college he joined the Navy in 1961. He attended Basic Training in San Diego, California and was then stationed at Cubi Point, Subic Bay, Philippines. Despite the fact he had no idea where Vietnam was, he volunteered to go there so he could get out of the Philippines. Upon arrival to Vietnam, he was handed a machine gun and was assigned to the Marines as a Door Gunner. His love and respect for guns continued to grow as a result.
After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1966, Guy worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the paint department. He later joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1971. While with the Sheriff's Department Sgt. Earl proudly served at: Wayside Honor Ranch Maximum Security (1972-1974); Lennox Sheriff's Station (1974-1986); West Hollywood Division (1986-1997); and Van Nuys Municipal Court (1997-2002).
Although Guy was extremely proud of his service to Our Country and to the community of Los Angeles County, his proudest achievements in life were his children and his family. Guy is the proud father of Donna, Amy, Billie Jo, Darin, Christie, Ashley and Mathew, and grandfather to Kaitlin, Kristion, Nick, Amanda, Lexi, Becca, Tyler, Ceana, Savannah, Jayce and Hunter. Guy was also a very proud Uncle to Zach Earl, Ben Earl, Katie Earl, Jessica Walker, C.J. Schmid and Jordan Schmid.
Not only was Guy an amazing Man of Uniform, Dad, Grandfather and Uncle, but he was an even more amazing husband to his wife Deborah Earl. Guy and Deborah met and fell in love in 1988 at which time they joined their children together to make one big family. They both loved having family get-togethers whether it was for a birthday, holiday or just simply to be with family. Guy loved all his family and friends and always went above and beyond the call of duty where they were concerned. He was always such a fun "guy" to be around.
After Guy's retirement from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department in 2002, Guy and Debbie found the perfect place to live and call home in Lake Arrowhead, California in 2003. Guy loved his mountain home and actually even enjoyed snow plowing. Despite the up and down narrow roads of the mountain, every morning for an hour Guy would faithfully walk his Siberian Huskies: Bandit (who passed away), and now Dakota.
Guy Frederick Earl was a man of honor, integrity and loyalty. He was proud of his service to Our Country, and for belonging to a special band of brothers, The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He loved his family, friends, and his mountain. He will never be forgotten and will continue to watch over all of us with the same love, compassion and friendship as he always did.
May you rest in peace our friend and no more "Honey Dos."
