

Hazel Eleanor Vail graduated to heaven on August 29, 2010 at Apple Valley Care Center where she spent the last 10 weeks of her life. She had been a resident of Victorville since 1980 and of San Bernardino County since 1949.
She was born June 4, 1918 in Denver, Colorado to Eleanor and Earl Boyd.
Two older sisters – Coral Schermerhorn and Helen Davis, one older brother – Elmer Boyd, and one younger sister- Lilly Beeler all preceded her in death.
Hazel married Reverend Hilton Vail, Sr. on March 28, 1937. They ministered in many Church of God locations and retired from the San Bernardino Church of God in 1979. Hilton passed away on September 11, 1983. John, the youngest of their 3 sons, passed away in 2007.
Hazel always worked outside the home as well as being a devoted minister’s wife. Her many jobs included insurance clerk, retail sales, cashier, cafeteria worker and at a meat packing plant.
Sister Vail played piano and organ at all churches she attended as well as local rest homes and was active in all women’s groups, most recently Dorcas at the Victorville First Assembly of God, until declining health prevented her from participating. Her hobbies included sewing, traveling, playing Skippo and lots of visiting with family and friends.
Hazel is survived by son Hilton of El Cajon, CA, son Joe and daughter-in-law Paula of Victorville, and daughter-in-law Luanne Vail of Port Orchard, WA.
She was a proud Grandma Vail to Melanie, Daryl (Martha), Kevin (Christie), David (Teri),LaVonne (Randy), Kimberly (Jon), Elizabeth and Michael.
Great grandchildren include Natalie, Paula, Makayla, Alexis, Allison, Janie, Skyler, Robert, Mackenzie, Alyssa and Jonathan. Step great grandchildren are Michelle, Claudia, Jaime, Melody, Tristyn and Lacey.
Hazel also made honorary grandchildren of Zephyr, Maria, Zophia, Theodore, Will and Jacob.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 7th, at the First Assembly of God located at 15260 Nisqualli in Victorville. Visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. before the memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Luncheon at the church fellowship hall will follow the service.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Montecito Memorial Park located at 3520 East Washington at the end of Waterman Avenue in Colton.
In lieu of flowers Hazel would have appreciated donations to any of the churches she attended. Calls for more information can be made to son Joe at 760-245-8078.
