Isidore B. Hodge, a retired pastor, beloved father and grandfather, and trusted mentor died at the age of 101 on August 3rd, 2023. He lived a long life of service to God and others, passing away at his home in Redlands, California.
Isidore was born to Alice and Alfred Hodge on May 27th, 1922 in French Cul de Sac, St Martin. At the age of 25, he dedicated his life to the service of God by entering the pastoral ministry. He completed his Theology degree at West Indies College, Jamaica where he met his soulmate of 70 years, Doris Ione Dunn, marrying her on December 31, 1952. Shortly after, he began serving as a missionary pastor in the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. Later, he served as a Senior Pastor in St. Lucia and then as a Chaplain and Pastor of Andrew’s Memorial Hospital and Church while in Jamaica. He later completed a Master’s degree in Divinity at Andrews University, Michigan. In 1979, he moved his family to California. He worked for the Southern California SDA Conference and continued to minister to others as an Elder in the Burbank and Van Nuys Adventist Churches. In his retirement, he worked at the Glendale Adventist Hospital.
Isidore was known for his gentle spirit, engaging smile, friendly demeanor, baritone singing voice with a talent for playing the Hawaiian guitar, being well-read, and fluently speaking 5 languages. His sermons were based on the life and teachings of Christ, captivating listeners with personal heartwarming stories. As he grew older, he was most often found listening to online sermons, reading the Bible and other spiritual books. He was most proud of the legacies that he created through his family, multiple evangelists, and pastors who developed under his tutelage over the years.
He was recently preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris, and son-in-law Milton and is survived by his children Aline, Pauline, Neville, and Jacqueline (Ian), his grandchildren, Daniel (Lenrica), Mellissa, Antoinette, Jordan (Kyle), K’Vaughn & Nyasia, great grandkids, Nuri & Hansel and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to the Inter-American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the Isidore B. Hodge Scholarship Fund at Northern Caribbean University to provide support for in-need theology students. Specific instructions on how to do this will soon be available.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.montecitomemorialparkandmortuary.com for the Hodge family.
