Jacob "Jake" Mantel passed into glory after a long illness on April 2, 2025 at his home in Redlands with his devoted wife of 62 years at his side. He is survived by his wife, Marlys (Anderson) Mantel, his sister Lois (Mantel) Elzinga of Michigan, his children Troy Mantel, Kelly Mantel and Brenda Spoelstra (Douglas), all of Redlands; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and next-generation cousins across the country. He was born on February 24, 1941 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and moved to Redlands as a young teenager with his family in 1956. He attended Redlands High School, class of 1959, and attended various colleges for his fire science and EMT training and education. He retired as Captain with the Redlands Fire Department in 1994, serving heroically for 30 years. Jake loved the outdoors and nature through many hikes, fishing, hunting, birdwatching and photography. He was devoted to his Christian faith and a long-time member of Hope Protestant Reformed Church in Redlands. Graveside services will be held at Montecito Cemetery 3520 E Washington St, Colton, CA 92324 on April 16, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. Memorial church service 10:30am Hope Protestant Reformed Church.
