James Gordon Lintern of Grand Terrace, California passed away on September 17, 2020 at the age of 69. He died at Loma Linda University Medical Center after battling Cardiomyopathy since 2002. He ultimately died of congestive heart failure and complications from Covid-19.
Jim was born in Riverside, California on February 12, 1951 to parents Gordon and Bobbie Lee Lintern. He attended John W. North High School where he played varsity baseball and basketball, excelled in architecture, and worked as a journeyman grocery checker for Alpha Beta Markets. After graduation in 1969 he enlisted in the Army but was deferred due to a birth defect in his back. He was always disappointed that he did not get the opportunity to fight for his country in Vietnam.
He married Pam Watson in 1971 and had 2 sons. He then began working as a truck driver for California Motor Express, doing local pick ups and deliveries for 10 years. In 1981 he married his second wife Caitlin. After they married, he worked as a headhunter and a liquor store manager until going to work for the Center for Contract Compliance, where he fought for worker's rights and prevailing wages. This period marked the deaths of his parents and the birth of his third son to Caitlin.
He was both an active father and a dedicated son and brother, finding a sacred duty in those family roles. When his father developed chronic health issues later in life he visited the hospital every day until he was released, and then cared for him in big ways and small while he recovered. He was always there for his sons, passing on advice and wisdom, helping out with school projects, and coaching them all to follow in his footsteps as an athlete. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and those close to him could depend on him to fix any problem they ran into, no matter how daunting.
He was a wonderful husband and was married to Caitlin for 39 years. He loved her more than anything and expressed his admiration daily through small gestures, notes, and gifts. In 2001, he purchased land on Palm Avenue to build a new family home. He finished the home in 2005, pushing through adversity to provide a sanctuary for he and Caitlin to live the last 15 years of their lives together. They both knew that the other would always be there till death would part them. Sadly that has happened now, but he leaves a wonderful legacy and will always be remembered as a loving, funny and generous man.
Jim is survived by his wife Caitlin, three sons Cory, Jeremy (Alexandria) and James Lintern. Grandchildren Savanna, Charlotte and Jackson Lintern. Sister Sandra Lintern Finnigan Barrett and her four children Michael (Tammy) and Mark (Shannon) Finnigan, Debra (Mike) Finnigan Eatinger and Steven (Adrianna) Barrett. Sister Donna Lintern who preceded him in death has one son Damon Dowell. Great nephews and nieces Michael Jr. (Kaylee), Katherine, Trever and Heather Finnigan, Christina (Josue) Finnigan Castaneda, Austin (Amber) Eatinger, and Hayden, Logan, Gavin and Donovan Barrett.
