Jesse was always a welcoming face at the family gatherings. He always offered a warm hug. He will be missed, but thank goodness we know where he was going and we'll see him again someday. My prayers were with him when he was sick and are with the rest of the family during this time. Thanksgiving will not be the same without him. God bless.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the family.  In reflecting on our memories of Jesse - he always greeted us with a big smile and a hug/handshake.  He was usually involved with some type of sporting event and discussions of such.  His presence at the many family events will remain in our memories and in our hearts.  He leaves behind his legacy in his five children - so he will not be forgotten, but will live on through them.  We know we will see him again in heaven.

Tio Jesse’s Eulogy:

Dear Tio Jesse,
       Although my childhood memories with you are slowly fading, my memories of you as a young adult are still fresh in my mind. However the memories I do still remember as a child were full of family, love and maybe a little bit of  arguments (but what family doesn’t argue). As a child I remember wanting someone to play with and God granted me just that; cousins. The gifts that you have given me which include Cassandra, Jacob and Isaiah growing up was more than I could’ve asked for. Instead of being alone I had a family and now because of that family I can’t think of a childhood memory without Cassandra, Jacob and Isaiah. 

      Even though we weren’t close I always had respect and admiration for you you were always a hard worker determined and loyal. I look into the eyes of my mom, grandma, grandpa, Lizzie and Chris and I see the loss that they are going through because you passed away. But I also see the love and memories they will cherish forever; You gave them that.

       Growing up my mother has always been a strong woman fearless woman that could get hurt by no one and seeing the tears in her eyes when we said goodbye to you, crushed me. I’m happy your last moments were with your family. I love you too Jesse and I see you soon.

Hi Jesse, 
I was flying down to SCAL this morning and I was thinking about you and although I am sad, all the good times we had together came flooding in.... There are so many good memories to choose from.

One of my best memory is when my brothers and I first came to the U.S. All the cousins (JJ, Nick, Moi, Bianca, Isela etc.) were at Tio Ruben’s house celebrating July 4th at the Chino house. This was  one of the few times where all the cousins were together. You were a big brother to us and made my brothers and I feel welcome. 
You were a man of few words, but I always felt your love for the family and I knew that you would have my back if I ever needed you.....There were times when Isela and I got into trouble with Tia Virgi and Tio Paul, and you would not lecture us, but just chuckle at us! Haha. Those were definitely good times. 

I miss you and wish you peace and happiness wherever your next adventure is. I am sure we will cross paths in the future.

The loss of a person as wonderful as Jesse is not going to be easy. I will never forget the fond memories of him. He effortlessly made everyone else have a good time. He always put a smile on my face and will continue to do so whenever I think of him.He was a kind hearted and generous person. As recipient of his kindness and generosity I will miss him greatly.

Jesse was a man of few word but when he did speak you could tell he was a great man. I knew Jesse for 13 years I remember our talks about football and baseball. He was a avid basketball fan and you could tell how much he loved the sport. I remember every Christmas celebrating Jesses birthday at the stroke of midnight at The family Christmas party.  Everyone would take a shot and sing Jesse happy birthday. In his last months I saw Jesse spending time with love ones and his friends. Jesse fought hard and will always be one of the strongest men I will ever know.

No sabes cuantas memorias tengo de ti.  El "boots" como te soliamos decir cuando aun eramos unos  niños.  Recuerdo como me gustaba visitarlos los fines de semana para jugar y convivir.  La memoria que nunca se me va a olvidar de ti fue cuando regresastes de un viaje largo de los Estados Unidos.  Al vernos, nos abrazamos y nos dio mucha felicidad volver a estar juntos.  "Boots", cada vez que nos encontrabamos o nos veiamos era como si aquel momento de nuestra niñez se volviera a repetir.  Siempre fue una felicidad volver a platicar y convivir contigo.  Yo se que dentro de ti siempre tuvistes los deseos de reencontrarte con tu niñez.  Ojala que te hayamos proporcinado un pedazito de ese recuerdo.  Donde quiera que hayas partido, ahi nos vemos para volver a reencontrarnos y recordar esos felices momentos.

Jesse was just an all around good guy. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think about him. Every memory I have of Jesse, he has a smile on his face and loved ones nearby vying for his attention. He had a way of making everyone feel like they were family and that they were welcome. Not many people in this world have that talent. He was one of the least judgmental people I knew and we were blessed to have known him. He will be missed and will always be loved.

There are many memories that I can remember from childhood teenage years and our adulthood, that will always stay in my heart. But one  that I will like to share was a chat you guys were having about the Lakers at Chris’s good bye party.  My boys were there and I was happy seeing you guys having a good time, but when the topic switch to football it was funny to see you guys disagree. I’m happy my kids got to know you, and will always remember their uncle Jesse. You will be missed, until we meet again Jesse.

We’ll always remember you because they’ll never be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you. 
Even though we did not get to spend a lot of time together I’m so grateful I got to spend almost everyday with you these last few months. It saddens me that my baby never got to meet her grandpa but my favorite memories will be of you helping me pick out baby names for my daughter. I know she will always have you watching over her and although you are no longer with us I want you to know how much I love you and think about you everyday. I wish everyday you were still here but I know god seen you were getting tired and now you can rest, you will never be forgotten I will always be proud of you and how strong you were.

Hey Jess,

Maybe very little was said the last few years due to the cycle of life many of us go through. One thing I can say is that the memories that pass through my head are not your last days in the hospital but that beautiful smile you always carried at family reunions. Those beautiful eyes who would always remind me a Grandpa Ruben. You were truly the handsomest of all cousins tell you that much. I always enjoyed seeing you chit chat with my dad seeing how he spoke to you in Spanish and you always responded in English. The way you smiled when you thought my mom was silly when she reminded you how you ate from her chichi. These are some of my memories-I can only imagine the amazing memories you left your children, your sisters , brother and my Tia and Tio because those who loved you will not only have a memory to remind you by but a treasure that will always be cherished. Rest in Paradise Cuz. 🕊

To my nephew in heaven, our hearts were broken the day you had to go, your with angels now and heaven is now your home. Thank you for the memories I will always keep in my heart, I send you my love  until we meet again.

So many childhood memories that we shared. Birthday parties, New Years and Christmas. Memories that I will always cherish and share with my children.  It’s so unreal that you are gone.. but you are definitely not forgotten. No doubt in my mind that your in peace looking down at us from heaven.  Until we meet again.

I met Jesse in August of 2015. He was my sons first baseball coach little did I know that he would become more than that. We hit it off instantly had lots of things in common he loved talking basketball and baseball he was the person that made me fall in love with the sport of baseball we enjoyed watching our boys play together. He became our first friend out here showed us places to go eat opened up the doors to his home we would hang by the pool and talk about life almost every weekend we would picture our boys growing up together and playing baseball as they got older. Needless to say I will miss you coach not a day goes by we don’t think about you every time we hit the field it does not feel
The same but I know you’re watching from above you left a long lasting legacy and you were loved by so many people. I’m glad I was able to spend those 3 years I did getting to know you and you’re family. Rest easy my friend until we meet again. 

Jesse was adored by friends and family for it is a testament to him how many were there to support him. Jesse will be forever missed, he  would want us to remember the good times we all shared with him.

My wife and I were fortunate to be a part of his life growing up I can  remember taking him to park with my oldest daughter in Mexico to play and have fun. We were able to witness him serve his country and become a father. Jesse was a fighter and strong till the end. 

My family wishes to express our heartfelt condolences to the Shafer family. 

To Jesse: Goodbye you will forever be in our hearts. We know you are not alone for you have Grandpa Mike and Grandpa Ray.  Rest in peace.

Words can not describe how loving my cousin is. I knew him my entire life and he always had a big smile on his face.  He always had a hug and a kiss and took time to sit and talk with everyone and pay attention to everyone to make sure they were okay. He was so close to my father and loved him so much. I’m happy to know they walk together now in heaven and that my father is by his side.  Jesse was tough. I remember being proud of his Navy picture. I remember every family Christmas party where we wished him Happy Birthday at midnight. And then tequila shots.  We are blessed with a loving family full of memories. He had such a blessed life and he shared it with us. He is loved and missed but he is always with us.

So many words that were never said, you left us too soon. Every time I speak of my older brother my heart has a hole. The last couple of months God gave us a chance to reunite and show you how much we love you and how special you are to us. I'm so grateful you had the chance to spend quality time with each and every one of us. Especially with your kids, seeing you play around with Isaiah and having special time with Cassandra feeding you your favorite meals. Watching Jacob and you watch sports. Watching you rekindle your love with your kids brought joy to our family. I know how hard it was for you but I want to thank you for spending your last moments with us, I will cherish these moments forever. Please watch over our family and become our guardian angel. 

On December 25,1974 Jesse Shafer was born & from birth Jesse was a bit of a cry baby. He had beautiful blueish green eyes & honey brown curly hair. He was a handsome baby & a handful. Jesse was a good son & a good person. Jesse loved sports basketball was his favorite he coached baseball at Newmark little league he loved doing that. He worked at Mclanes a company who truly valued him & loved him. Its almost as if he had a second family at Mclanes. When Jesse became ill he had so many friends & co- workers coming and visiting him. It was apparent that Jesse was well liked & loved. Everyone was truly worried about his health and well being. We heard stories of Jesse through his friends and work colleagues that made our hearts warm. My family & I will forever be grateful for all the kindness that our family, Mclane, his friends & co workers have showed us. Our door was always open to anyone who wanted to spend time with him. Our home was constantly filled with family & friends who made him feel so loved. In the last four months God gave us the opportunity to be close to Jesse. I go into the room and still feel him near us. We had prayed and hoped that God would grant us more time with our son, but Jesus called him home. No parent should ever have to bury their child but we were there as he left this world & went onto heaven. A mothers loves is unconditional I will always love Jesse I was there for his first breath & there for his last. It hurts knowing that he is no longer with us but he was a man of faith & knew he was going to a better place. Jesse leaves behind 3 sons 2 daughters & a grand daughter that he never got to meet. Without Jesse our lives will never be the same there will always be a void. Although Jesse is gone he will never be forgotten he will be in our family heart. Until we see him again. Jesse our son you were so strong & we loved you so much please watch out for the family & wait for us. Jesse passed away May 25th 2018 surrounded by loved ones.

Hey Jesse,
I want you to know that not a day goes by I don't think about you. I miss you with all my heart, and I can't believe your not here. I tell my boys about you, their uncle, my big brother, my amazing brother. Sometimes life wasn't all that you planned but you made the most of it in your own way. 

You were always a great brother to me and you always made a point to inspire me to be the best I could possibly be in everything I did, I promise to pass that on to my sons. 

I know where you are and I know you're at peace but I want you back. Mom wants you back, we all want you back. I know God has a plan but this time I don't agree with it. 

Even though you don't know it, I looked up to you Jess. I was so proud of you. Navy man, hard working man, and my big brother. You helped shape the man I am today, and I thank you for that.

I miss you Jess, I love you with all my heart. Everyday I'm thinking of you, everyday I'm thinking of your family and everyday it's painful knowing that I can never see you again. 

I know the pain for you is over, I know for you, peace has arrived. I know you're smiling while looking down at us not knowing of the wonders that await us next. I wish you had more time, I wish we had more time. 

I promise to accomplish what we talked about, I promise to be the best I can be in everything I do.

Jesse made an impact in everyone’s life, as a coach and a friend. I met Jesse when he coached my son Daniel  for tball, he made such an impact on my son, so much that Daniel wanted to be on Coach Jesse’s team every season. Daniel was able to be on his team various seasons. We got to know Jesse and his family on the field as well as on a personal level. An amazing human being that will greatly be missed. We are thankful to God for allowing us to have met such a great person and make memories. You will greatly be missed Coach! 

My brother Jesse was a strong silent man. He had often been told the he looked like Russel Crowe, some people called him gladiator. He enjoyed working, watching sports and coaching. He worked at McLanes for 19 years and from the stories we hear from his work colleagues he had a second family with them and was very much liked and loved. My brother loved his family and his friends. He enjoyed my mother’s cooking, watching sports especially the Lakers and the 49ers. When I think of my brother I only think of good times he was not a man to talk bad about others. But if he did say something about someone, you know it was the truth. He was a man who believed in god and knew he would go to heaven. I can see him with his all black glasses and hear him saying “what’s up”. I have always heard from different members of my family that when I was a baby my brother would always come home and find me to hold me. One of my first memories of Jesse is him picking me up from school in his green Honda civic blasting Biggie smalls on the radio. Talking to me about the Biggie Tupac feud. In his last month’s/days I was honored to help take care of my brother. He was surrounded by family and friends who made sure he felt comfortable and loved. I held my brothers hand while he drifted into the next life. He is very much loved and will be missed terribly by his family. His passing leaves a hole in our family’s heart but we all know we will see him again. Jesse you were so strong and fought so hard, I love you and I will see you again.

Jesse it broke our hearts when you got sick and now your not suffering anymore. We’ve always loved you from day one when you and Gina were in middle school. You left 3 beautiful children, whom we will see you in them forever. You are now their speacial Gardian Angel. Fly High Jesse, you will be deeply missed and loved by all of us.❤️

Let me begin by saying that Jesse will always hold a special place in all of our hearts and that he will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He was a part of our family since the age of 13 and leaves behind 3 beautiful children, Cassandra, Jacob, Isaiah plus his first grandbaby on the way Chloe<3. We shared many memories growing up especially of those with my sister and children. He was a kind, quiet, strong man that always had the best interest for his family. They always came first.  I am happy to say that I only have the fondest memories of Jesse and my family growing up through the years.These last few months were the hardest to see him slowly leaving us with his parents, siblings and my sister and children by his side everyday making sure he was comfortable and well taken care of. He was loved by many. Jesse is at peace now.  I know he loved his children very much and  is now in a better place  looking down and watching over them and his family and will always from here on be their guardian angel from above.  Rest in Peace Jesse. Forever in our hearts.

Jesse Sanchez Shafer….His name will forever be with us…Whole-heartedly much longer than the 15 years of memories he made and shared with our family as Andrea’s life partner.  We will recall the joys of seeing him spend a precious moment with his babies, created within our family-Maximus (8) and Aurora (1).  He will be remembered through ALL of his children’s eyes and especially through Maximus’ memorable experiences; through our spiritual filled conversations with him about God and loving his well-versed knowledge of the Bible.  We will always have the laughs from the holidays and family BBQs of his silly ways.  The mention of Jesse’s name will ring strong in the thoughts of those who go about their days, doing things where he was always involved, wishing he was there.  We will recollect the hand he lent out, the big hugs he gave, the small words of wisdom he wanted everyone to know…and above all, the love he wanted so much to express, but couldn’t always find the words.  Thank you, Jesse, for the blessings you bestowed on us, not only with your existence in our hearts but for the lives that will go on with you in mind.  Peace be with you, Jesse Sanchez Shafer…

Jesse was a part of our family for approximately 15 years. He shared a lovely home with his family, Andrea, Maximus and Aurora in San Bernardino. He worked at his job for as long as I can remember so he was dedicated and committed to the things he loved in his life. He was a Maximus' baseball coach every year and sadly he didn't get the opportunity to coach him this past season. Although Jesse was often thought of as quiet, it was funny to see him after one of Max's games, he would motivate and encourage and ask the kids input on how to improve. It was truly a cherished time for him. Jesse and Andrea shared many memories together, as with every relationship, they had their good times and their bad, but aside from all of life's stressors, you could always find them having a good time together eating and drinking and enjoying life, just the four of them. Spending 15 years of your life with someone and having a beautiful family is priceless. A bond with any person is a bond of meaning, it cannot be defined by a certificate. 
Our family is saddened about the passing of Jesse and that Max and Aurora will not have the opportunity to experience more life adventures with their daddy. He will be missed, he will be remembered and we will always make sure those children know what a great father Jesse was.
