March 5, 1939 – July 15, 2023
It is with immense sadness that the family of Joan Delight Smith, 84, announces her recent passing on July 15, 2023. Her family is mourning her unexpected death. She died suddenly in the early morning hours with her daughter, Kelly, by her side.
Joan was born on March 5, 1939, in San Bernardino, California, to her parents, Bob and Lorraine Smith. She was the oldest of four children. Joan graduated from Pacific High School in 1957.
Joan retired from the County of San Bernardino, Welfare Fraud, in 2001 after 31 years of service. She wasn’t content being retired and went back to work at a few places (Loma Linda Hospital, San Manuel Casino, the Post Office) before working for Enterprise Rent a Car. She worked for 16 years as a driver until she was 80 years old and was forced to stop working due to a severe hit-and-run car accident while on the job. This accident prevented her from working any longer, or she most certainly would have still been working full-time.
Joan raised her daughter, Kelly as a single mother and worked very hard to provide her with a loving and safe home. When Kelly married her husband, Tony, he became the son she never had. Joan loved her kids and grandchildren more than anything, would do anything for her family, and always put everyone else's needs above hers.
Joan was known for her dry sense of humor and her lifelong love of her beloved Dodgers. You never met a bigger fan of the “Boys in Blue” than Joan. She also loved a trip to the casino, where she played blackjack and craps. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She will be profoundly missed and not forgotten by anyone fortunate to have known her.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lorraine Smith, a brother, Timothy Smith, and her son-in-law, Tony Adame. She leaves behind her daughter, Kelly Adame; granddaughter Lindsey and her husband, Joseph Lemus; and great-granddaughter, Romi. Step-grandson Jonah Adame and his wife, Dana. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Landon Turley, Tehya Perdigon, Gavin Adame, Paisley Adame, and great-great-grandson Malakai Perdigon; her sister Susanne Oakley and her husband Ted; her brother Rick Smith. Also surviving her are nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loyal lifetime friends.
A funeral service for Joan will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cypress Chapel, 24145 Barton Road, Loma Linda, CA 92354, followed by a reception from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
