John Lemus passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in San Bernardino, CA, at the age of 63 due to cancer and renal disease.
The son of Juan Miguel Lemus and Prudence “Lencha” Lemus, John was born in Fontana, CA, and was baptized at St. Anthony’s Church in San Bernardino. The youngest of thirteen children, he graduated from San Bernardino High School and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. John proudly worked in the aerospace industry for over 25 years, initially working for Hughes Aircraft Company in El Segundo, where he worked on the radar system for the F-15 and F-18 aircraft. Later, his department became Raytheon, Boeing, and ultimately, L3 Communications, where he worked on satellite systems.
A Roman Catholic and proud American, John loved visiting National Parks, studying history, and sharing family lineage with extended family members. Extremely involved with his children Victoria and John, he cherished them as “his pride and joy.” He loved taking them to soccer, baseball, ballet, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts meetings and always made time to play with them and help with homework. John also loved his time as a student at UCLA and was a devoted fan of Bruin football, frequently tailgating and holding season tickets at the Rose Bowl.
In his later years, John faced health challenges with resilience, including diabetes, dialysis, and chemotherapy. Despite these, he remained a pillar of strength and love for his friends, family, and most importantly, his two grandchildren, Allyson “Ally Bear” and John, “Baby Brother.” His grandchildren were his source of happiness and strength, and he loved every moment spent with them, from pushing them on swings, reading stories, playing catch, and delivering gifts while wearing holiday outfits.
Although he is now with his beloved daughter, Victoria “Vicky” Angela Lemus, he is survived by the former Maria Lemus, son John Lemus, daughter-in-law Maricela Lemus, and two grandchildren, Allyson and John IV.
A viewing and rosary will be held Thursday, August 29, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Cypress Chapel of Montecito Memorial Park. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, with burial services following at 1:00 p.m. at Montecito Memorial Park.
