

Jose Cerna Atil, Jr. passed away at 7:25 am on October 31, 2014 as a result from complications stemming from stage four lymphoma cancer. Born in Pinamungajan, Cebu on April 19, 1935, he lived a full life of 79 years. His attended high school at East Visayan Academy and continued his education at Philippine Union College, where he graduated with a BS in Commerce on March 24, 1957. He received his CPA in the Philippines on November 25, 1966. While working in Cagayan Valley Sanitarium as the treasurer, he met Patricia Mondala Victoriano and they married on November 29, 1962. During their 44 years of marriage, they had three children: Jose Victoriano Atil, III, Jocelyn Victoriano Atill and Jose Joepet Victoriano Atil, IV. In 1968, he arrived in the United States and his family followed him the following year. Patricia passed away in 2007. As an active member in the Seventh - day Adventist community, he had an unwavering faith in the Lord. He founded two churches in California: Glendale Filipino Church and Claremont Filipino Church. As a Master Guide for Pathfinders, he was actively involved in the organization for over four decades. Furthermore, he was passionate about furthering the education of several relatives and students in the Philippines to finish their degrees. Amongst some of his passions, was an obsessive delight for fishing. Regardless of ocean, lake, or stream, a fishing pole was never far from reach. He married Rachel Sorizo on January 8, 2009 and her daughters, Lindsey and Sunshine Dagondong joined the family arriving in the US within the last two years. He was survived by his children and their spouses, Jose and John, Jocelyn and Randy, Joepet, Lindsey, Sunshine, his grandchildren, Stephen, RJ, Neal, Aaron, Ethan and Kai, brothers and sisters and their spouses, Plaridel and Minda, Luna and Terry, Rufinita, Evacuee and Teofilo, and Isagani and Emma.
Viewing will be on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Montecito Valley View Chapel 3520 E. Washington St Colton, California 92324. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 9 am to 11 am at Montecito Valley View Chapel 3520 E Washington St Colton, California 92324. Graveside to will follow at Montecito Memorial Park.
