

Mariano dela Torre Hanapin, 95 years old of Colton, California, passed away at his home on Monday, February 24, 2014. He was born on August 15, 1918 in San Isidro, Kilometro Katorse, Sorsogon City, Philippine Islands. At 23 years old, he went to Daet, Camarines Norte, where he met Victoria Obias from Lagonoy, Camarines Sur. They married on January 19, 1941. They had 13 kids, 3 passed away. He is survived by his sons, Frederick, David, Larry, Caesar, Mariano, Jr., and Sam Hanapin. Daughters, Nelly Navea, Emely Gavina, Salvacion Casino and Buena Hanapin. Also, 44 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. The whole family converted to the Adventist faith when Victoria was pregnant with Samuel. He was an active member of Himagtocon Adventist Church. Mariano was a farmer by profession for over 70 years. He came to the United States with Victoria in 1985 and joined the "Apos"tolic Ministry. Even in the land of "milk and honey", Tatay enjoyed farming. He harvested the fruits of his labor, ampalaya, eggplant, garlic, tomatoes, oinons, yain, cabbage, string beans, lettuce, carrots, calamansi, oranges, avocados, persimmons, etc. giving them away to family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014, 4-8 p.m., at Montecito Valley View Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, 9 a.m., also, at Montecito Valley View Chapel, followed by burial at Montecito Memorial Park, all at 3520 E. Washington St., Colton, California.
