

Mirta was born in 1923 in Havana, Cuba, to Amador Lopez and Maria Luisa Delgado. She was the youngest of their six children. She was married in to Armando C. Hernandez, M.D., who preceded her in death in 2004.
She came to the United States in 1944 and graduated from Loma Linda University School of Nursing in 1950. She worked as a nurse at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles before assisting her husband in his medical practices in Santa Ana and Anaheim.
Along with her husband, Mirta sponsored 100 family members to emigrate from Cuba to the United States and helped them find housing and employment. Mirta was a faithful member of the Community Services Department at her church and the local and national chapters of Loma Linda University School of Medicine Auxiliary, the organization of wives of alumni that sponsor activities and charitable projects. She also worked with several friends at The Little White House in Loma Linda, the auxiliary-sponsored organization that assists students with household goods while they attend Loma Linda University.
Survivors include her four children: Sonia Neidigh of Loma Linda, California; Dania Latimer of Centerville, Massachusetts; David Hernandez of College Place, Washington; and Armando Max Hernandez of Grand Terrace, California. She also leaves eight grandchildren: Jonathan Neidigh, Jason Neidigh, JoAnn Shaul, Seth Latimer, Nathan Latimer, Caleb Latimer, Brian Hernandez and Natasha Kendall and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on February 8, 2015, at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 E. Washington St., Loma Linda, Calif. 92354.
